History of the Tau

The Franciscan Symbol or Tau, is a Cross with the arm of the crucified Lord Jesus and the arm of St. Francis clothed in a wide sleeve with the hand marked by the wound of stigmata. The Tau has been the official logo for St. Joseph Hospital since 1960

The Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph felt this symbol more clearly represented the tradition and legacy of their founder, St. Francis of Assisi, who used it as his personal seal.
